LinkedIn Profile

What do you enjoy the most about your position?

I love being a Naval Flight Officer in the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye because it combines many of my passions. Serving the United States, leading sailors, and being involved in the tactical side of the military. The job satisfaction after a mission or helping a sailor is the best feeling.

What is a typical day like in your position?

There is not really a “typical day” in my job. The flight schedule will determine when you fly as well as if you have any simulator events or academics to complete. In between those scheduled events I complete administrative work. This is definitely not a 9-to-5 because it all depends on when you fly!

How did you find your current position?

I was in the Naval ROTC program at the University of Maryland which led to me commissioning upon graduation and then attending flight school for the Navy.

Which undergraduate experiences did you find most helpful in preparing you for your current position?

Participating in SGA, numerous other clubs, and speaking/working with professors about research helped me develop leadership and analytical skills that I use daily.

How has your coursework helped you in your current position (i.e. quantitative skills, research techniques, communication skills)?

The BS track for Economics was very helpful in teaching me quantitative and analytical skills that I use in my current position, which is very technically and tactically advanced. I consistently rely on what I was taught to make me better at operating and controlling the many aircraft systems as well as leading sailors.

Is there anything else you'd like students to know about you?

I am also an out and proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community. I am always willing to speak about what it is like to be out and in the Navy or as an aviator.
