The undergraduate economics program at the University of Maryland is taught by award-winning faculty and focuses on developing critical thinking, data analysis, and problem-solving skills. Our majors learn both quantitative and qualitative analysis and an advanced quantitative course is required for graduation. In addition, over 20% of our students are double majors, most commonly in business, computer science, or mathematics. Our graduates have thrived in business, finance, government, policy, and research institutions and can conduct economic analysis to inform business decisions, interpret and apply descriptive and inferential statistics, and use conceptual and quantitative tools to assess the effectiveness of programs and interventions. Bring the power of a top research institution to your business today!

Ways to Interact with our Students

What are Employer Panels?

Economics Employer Panels are dynamic, in-person events designed to connect your organization with undergraduate students studying economics. These panels offer an opportunity to:

  • Introduce your organization and its mission

  • Share career paths, industry insights, and recruitment advice

  • Engage in small-group networking with high-potential students

Panels typically begin with a brief introduction of all participating employers, followed by informal rotations where each organization hosts a small-group discussion. Students choose which employers to visit based on their interests, allowing for more meaningful, personalized conversations.

Events last approximately 1.5 hours and are hosted in large classroom spaces on campus.

Why Participate in an Employer Panel?

Participating in an Economics Employer Panel is a high-impact way to:

  • Raise awareness of your organization among talented, motivated students

  • Directly recruit for current openings or build a pipeline for future hires

  • Provide guidance that helps students prepare for careers in your field

  • Demonstrate leadership and community engagement in talent development

Students value opportunities to speak with professionals in a casual, interactive setting. These events help them understand your industry while giving you the chance to shape their preparation and connect early with top candidates.

Do I Need to Prepare?

Panels are informal, so minimal preparation is required. However, we recommend coming ready to:

  • Share your organization’s mission and hiring goals during the short introductory session

  • Talk about the kinds of roles and skills that lead to success at your organization

  • Offer practical tips on resumes, job applications, and career exploration

Whether you’re actively hiring or looking to build long-term brand awareness, your insights will be deeply appreciated by our students.
